Trail of Trees is Wednesday
The Fort Crawford Museum and Prairie du Chien Historical Society will celebrate the holiday season with its annual Trail of Trees Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m.
As has happened for the past seven years, museum volunteers have placed 25 lighted evergreen trees on the veranda of the historic Fort Crawford Hospital. Each tree is then “sponsored” by an organization, business or family. The sponsor then decorates their tree.
This year, all of the trees were quickly sponsored, many by people who have participated in the Trail of Trees since its inception. The trees are now all decorated, awaiting the lighting gathering Wednesday.
All of the decorations are unique and change from year to year. Some of the trees are very personal, decorated in memory of a departed family member and friend. Others display traditional Christmas and holiday themes, while some reflect individual creativity.
The sponsors of the Trail of Trees for 2013 are: Theresa Acker, Ken and Dorothy Birrenbach, Prairie du Chien Chamber of Commerce, Pat and Jim Coorough, Design Homes, The Diekelmann Family, The Eagles Club, Friends of the Prairie du Chien Library, Huckleberry’s Restaurant, Fred and Barb Huebsch, Kiwanis Club, Norma and Don Lochner, Helen Larson, Gladys Brown and Phyllis Gokey, Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Cathie and Tom Nelson, Nelson’s True Value Hardware, Peoples State Bank, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Sutton Insurance, The Ron Shipley Family, 20th Century Study Club, Eric and Diana Temte, Welter Century 21 Realty and Prairie du Chien Women’s Civic Club.
All are welcome to come and watch the lighting of the trees. The Trail of Trees will continue to be lit through Jan. 1, 2014.
