kick off season
On Friday, the wrestlers from Prairie du Chein/Wauzeka-Steuben traveled to LaCrosse to compete in the Aquinas Blugold’s Quad. Other teams at the quad where host Aquanis, Independence-Gilmanton, and Byron, Minn.
Byron bested all three teams compiling a dual record of 3-0 on the night. The other teams, including PDC-WS, were all 1-2 in duals on the night.
The PDC-WS wrestlers started the night with Byron. Byron had a very balanced attack with quality and seasoned wrestlers at every weight and beat the Blackhawks 66-18. Wrestlers winning their respective matches in the Byron meet were Taylor Elliott, Clayton Beers, and Brenden Fleshner.
In the next dual, the Blackhawks wrestled against host Aquanis. The Blackhawks were victorious in this dual by the score of 40-38. The Blackhawks were led by match winners Taylor Elliott, Clayton Beers, Drew Yeomans, Carter Titlbach, Reese Dressler, Peyton Hall, and Ethan Swiggum. The 113-pound match found two place winners from last year’s state tournament facing off in the Blackhawk’s Taylor Elliott and Nick Burns of Aquinas. Elliott was a state runner up last season and Burns was a fourth-place finisher. Elliott handled Burns by major decision, winning 11-2.
The wrestlers rounded out the night by taking on Indepence/Gilmanton. The Blackhawks came up short as they fell by the score of 43-26. Winning their matches for the Blackhawks were Matt Chase, Taylor Elliott, Clayton Beers, Drew Yeomans, Peyton Hall, and Ethan Swiggum.
Wrestlers travel to Boscobel for Dual Tournament
On Saturday, the wrestlers from Prairie du Chien-WS traveled to Boscobel to take part in their dual team tournament. Other teams attending the tournament were Boscobel, Sugar River, Fennimore, Cuba City–SW, and De Soto. PDC-WS went 2-3 on day.
The dual scores are as follows:
PDC -WS 28, Fennimore 39
PDC-WS 39, Sugar River 40* One point was added due to tie-breaker criteria.
