Kornelia Pady, 91 went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on November 26, 2013. Connie was born in Mukachevo, UK (this was Hungary when she was born) on November 8, 1922. She was the eighth child of Ference and Ester Nedeczey-Ruszak. She spent her early years at home with her family. She attended a German Catholic boarding school and went on to teachers’ college. She had just begun teaching when the schools were closed due to the war. For a short time she worked for the Red Cross as a nurses aide. Eventually the fighting from the war sent her across Hungary to her sister’s home then both of them went on to be refugees in Bavaria, Germany. It was there while working at the American PX that she met Roy Pady and married him on April 19, 1948.
Here in the United States, Connie babysat and did some waitressing becoming a full-time stay-at-home mother after her children were born. She was a good neighbor in each of the communities she and her family lived in and was always active in the church helping out with the women’s circle groups, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. Connie had a gift for telling humorous stories and in her delightful Hungarian accent she loved sharing of her unique life and traditions of her homeland.
Connie was married to Roy for over 60 years. They had two daughters, Cornelia “Cory” and Carla, and one niece, Nancy, who became like an adopted daughter. She also had three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews both here in the U.S. and Hungary as well.
Connie loved being able to help others, spend time with family and friends and, of course, entertain with her stories. She was able to do all of these things throughout her life and was a special lady and a blessing to all who knew her.
There will be a memorial service at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader on December 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. with a reception afterwards. Her cremated remains will be buried in the Washburn, Wisconsin cemetery in the spring with a family memorial at that time.
