Richard Blodgett, 85, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1928 to Harvey and Winifred (Bordner) Blodgett in Peoria, Ill. Richard married the love of his life, JoAnn Willkomm, on Aug. 20, 1955 in Rockford, Ill. To this union three children were born. Richard graduated from Havanna High School in 1946. He worked as a laborer and then went to serve his nation in the Army during the Korean War. This past May he proudly went on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. After his service in the Army, Richard worked for over 29 years at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, retiring in 1991. Richard and JoAnn spent many happy summers along the Mississippi River in Bagley, and winters in Green Valley, Ariz. He was an avid reader who enjoyed puzzles of all types. Richard also enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, travelling and playing cards. He was the best card player in the family and was known to play two games of cribbage a day.
Richard is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of Prairie du Chien; three children, Becky Peura (special friend, Dennis Lynch), Ron (Louise) Blodgett and Cindy Gilbertson (special friend, Marty Miller), all of Stoughton; six beloved grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and his much loved dog, Dixie. He is further survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, close friends and wonderful neighbors.
