Time running out to complete GED before changes in 2014, SWTC’s PdC Outreach Site offers test preparation

The current 2002 Series General Educational Development (GED)/High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) Tests will be replaced with a new series of tests that is entirely computer based in 2014. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, is the deadline to complete the current GED Test series. If all five tests from the 2002 Series GED Test are not completed, the entire series will be voided at the end of 2013. The change also affects the Spanish version of the GED Test.

“A GED opens doors to college, better jobs, the respect adults deserve, and the satisfaction of earning a high school credential,” State Superintendent Tony Evers said. “We want to be sure that anyone who started the current GED Tests finishes before Dec. 13. GED test-takers who don’t complete and pass the five-test series before the deadline will have to start over with new assessments in 2014.”

Southwest Tech offers GED/HSED testing services in Fennimore and Richland Center. The college also offers free GED/HSED preparation at Outreach Sites in Prairie du Chien and Boscobel (as well as Fennimore, Richland Center, Darlington, Dodgeville and Platteville).

Only four testing dates remain through Southwest Tech. They include Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Fennimore campus; Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Richland Center Outreach Site; Thursday, Dec. 5 in Fennimore; and Wednesday, Dec. 11 in Fennimore.

To sign up, interested individuals have until Monday, Nov. 25 for the Nov. 27 test date or Wednesday Nov. 24, for those dates following. Call 326-1132 or visit the Southwest Tech Outreach Site, in Room 125 of the Crawford County Administration Building in Prairie du Chien (lower level) on Mondays and Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Otherwise, call Southwest Tech toll-free at (800) 362-3322.
