Lyle W. Hamlett, 92, of Edgewood, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at his home. Lyle was born December 27, 1920, on the family farm east of Wood Center, the son of Elias T. and Alta (Whitehead) Hamlett. Lyle attended rural school near Wood Center.
On October 3, 1945, Lyle was united in marriage to Alice Probasco at the Wood Methodist Church near Wood Center. They farmed in the Edgewood area. Lyle also worked at an implement dealership and as a carpenter. Lyle was a longtime member of the Masons and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
After retiring, Lyle enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and watching nature, especially the changes of seasons reflected in the trees. Lyle also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow.
Lyle will be sadly missed by his wife Alice; his four children, Eileen (Richard) Waterman of Manchester, Tom Hamlett of Beloit Wisconsin, Jim (Karen Salvage) of State College, Pennsylvania, and Cathy (Lary) Shaw of Edgewood; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a brother Bryce (Jeanette) Hamlett of Edgewood, a brother-in-law Joe (Sue) Probasco of Branson, Missouri, and a sister-in-law Margaret Probasco of Cedar Rapids.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents Elias and Alta Hamlett; his brothers Otley, Gordon, and Chester Hamlett; and a grandson, Rusty Waterman.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood. Pastor Mike Jackson officiated. The visitation was Friday, November 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa with a 3:30 p.m. Masonic Service. Visitation was also held one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Interment was at Edgewood City Cemetery.
