David W. O’Flahrity, 70, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Fennimore, died unexpectedly on Wednesday Nov. 6, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
David was born on Dec. 25, 1942 in Fennimore, the son of William and Mary Janet (Smith) O’Flahrity. He was previously married to Jane Clay of Pflugerville, Texas. David Graduated from Fennimore High School and was a resident of Sannes Skagdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove since 2011.
As the saying goes, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” David found great beauty in rusty milk cans, inoperable milk coolers, farm machinery, and cheese factory memorabilia, always steadfast in his belief there would be an anxious buyer waiting to purchase his treasures. He loved a good joke and enjoyed being a tour guide (especially for his brother Dan) taking him on many adventures on the highways and byways of Crawford County. David’s greatest love and source of pride, throughout his sometimes turbulent life, remained his beloved son, Rory, who with his wife Myan are expecting their first child in December. He also had a special fondness for his brother Dennis, praying he was being well cared for. Now that his pain is gone, may he rest in peace wherever shamrocks grow.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Soldiers Grove for their love and compassion during his life’s final chapter.
David is survived by a son Rory (Myan) O’Flahrity of Seattle, Wash.; three step-children, Tony (Marilyn) Rose of Austin, Texas, Ron Rose of La Crosse, and Becky (Adam) Polanowski of La Crosse; two brothers, Dan (Karen) O’Flahrity of Eldridge Iowa, and Dennis O’Flahrity of Orchard Manor in Lancaster; sister Kathy (Jerry) Borowski, of Solon, Iowa; step-brother Paul (Lisa) Loy of Fennimore; and step-sister Kim (Dave) Streif, Fennimore.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father Dean Loy.
