The MarMac Unified Police Commission approved the 2014-2015 budget at its Nov. 4 meeting. The budget includes raises for the police chief, two officers, reserve officers and clerical.

The police department will also purchase another car. Chief Jason Bogdonovich said the department is going to go on a six-year car purchase rotation, rather than every five years, which had been the protocol. Trucks will be purchased every seven years. Bogdonovich said the department will go with this rotation unless the extra year yields maintenance fees that would not make the rotation cost-effective.

Commissioners Robyn Denning, Gay Hallberg, Tracy Melver and Norma Mason approved the budget, while Rogeta Halvorson chose not to, explaining that she would like to discuss it with the McGregor City Council before approving.

“This is the first time we’ve seen it,” she said.

Melver said both the McGregor and Marquette councils already have to discuss the budget.

“If we keep watching them like we have been, hopefully there will be another comeback to the cities,” he said. “We don’t want to cut it so tight that they have to come back to us.”

“They’ve done a really good job,” Mason added. “I’m not in favor of taking more [money] out.”

This year, McGregor and Marquette will receive $7,307.79 back, with 65 percent of that going to Marquette and 35 percent to McGregor.
