Alan D. Werger


Alan Deane “Al” Werger, 60, of Monona, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home in Monona.

Visitation was Monday, Oct. 14, at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 15, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, conducted by The Rev. Erika Kielstrup.

Burial was in the Monona Cemetery, Monona.

Al was born on Dec. 16, 1952, to Deane and Marilyn (Greene) Werger in Postville. Al graduated from Garnavillo High School and then attended two years of college at Area 1 in Calmar, for farm mechanics.

Al was united in marriage with Cathy Schoulte on Sept. 11, 1981, in Caledonia, Minn. He farmed for a time, was owner/operator of Werger Feed and Supply, worked for Waste Management, was in charge of building and grounds at MFL Mar-Mac Schools and his favorite job, working with A and S Lawn Care.

Al is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Cathy; his four children, Jared (Barb Moose) Werger of Guttenberg, Jeff (Jessica) Werger of Garnavillo, Alex Werger of Postville and Ali (Chris Kurth) of Luana; two grandchildren, Benjamin Werger, Jayda Werger and one on the way; his father, Deane Werger of Garnavillo; his sister, Diane (Dave) Fox of Port Orange, Fla.; two brothers, Gary Werger of Keota and Kim (Linda) Werger of Elkader and many nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn; his maternal and paternal grandparents and his nephew, Ryan Schoulte.
