On Oct. 8, at 3:55 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a one-vehicle traffic crash near Homesteader Avenue and Swingle Drive in the township of Prairie du Chien.
On scene, deputies found Jeffery A. Meyer, 35, Prairie du Chien, passed out behind the wheel of a 2006 Dodge Ram. Meyer was attempting to make a right turn when the vehicle struck a post and multiple mailboxes.
During the investigation of the traffic crash, an odor of intoxicants was smelled coming from Meyer. Meyer was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (second offense) and transported to Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital for a legal blood draw.
The Meyer vehicle sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Bob’s Towing of Prairie du Chien. The post and mailboxes also had minor damage and the owner was notified.
The accident currently remains under investigation.
