over River Ridge

Highland defeated host River Ridge 49-18 in Six Rivers football action Friday afternoon in Bloomington. 

The game was held at 4 p.m. due to the referees having a scheduling conflict. 

Highland scored 24 points in the opening quarter on a 47-yard run, a 1-yard run and a 25-yard run, all followed by 2-point conversion runs. 

The Cardinal scored on a 13-yard run early in the second quarter to increase the margin to 30-0. 

Zach Ertz made an excellent over the shoulder catch near the left sideline on a short pass from Kirk Martin, eluded the defender and raced into the end zone for an 80-yard touchdown to pull the Timberwolves within 30-6. 

Highland scored on a 1-yard run, a 27-yard run and PAT, and an 8-yard run in the second period to go up 49-6 at the half. 

Neither team scored in the third quarter.

Cordt Esser scored on a 52-yard pass from Martin in the fourth period and Martin later scored on a 51-yard run to make the final score 49-18. 

 

Martin rushed 12 times for 95 yards. He also completed 14 of 23 passes for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ertz caught 10 passes for 124 yards and a TD.
