Andrea Faye McElwaine, 40, of McGregor, Iowa died Friday, Oct. 4, at Gundersen Health Center in La Crosse.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1972 to Raymond and Faye (Johnson) Sporleder in Greeley, Colo. She graduated from Denver Lutheran High School in 1991 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Concordia Lutheran College in Seward, Neb. with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry.
Andrea was united in marriage with Thomas Joseph McElwaine on Feb. 19, 2000 in Loveland, Colo. To this union three children were born, Cobin Thomas, Kade Raymond, and Alexandrea Faye.
Andrea worked as a chemist and was a cancer research assistant. She was the owner/manager of McGregor Marina, Beer and Bratz Garden and also Boatels. Most of all she was a homemaker for her family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor.
Andrea enjoyed life and all it had to offer. She was passionate about her children, their activities, schooling and growth. Andrea loved boating on the Mississippi River, camping, family gatherings, bowling and going to live music events. She made herself available to help anyone she knew at a moment’s notice. Andrea liked making sure everyone was having a good time when she was around. She was a strong fighter and loved to stay busy with her family and community. Andrea’s faith was very important to her and her family. Most of all, Andrea had a deep love for spending time with her family and friends, celebrating life.
Andrea is survived by her husband, Thomas McElwaine; her three children, Cobin Thomas, Kade Raymond and Alexandrea Faye; parents, Raymond and Faye Sporleder of McGregor; one sister, Lea Rae (Marty) Christensen; maternal grandmother, Doris Johnson of Prairie du Chien; and several nieces and nephews.
Andrea was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 10, 3 to 8 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in McGregor, Iowa.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa.
