Man arrested for alleged battery, resisting
A 54-year-old Gays Mills man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of substantial battery and one count of resisting an officer.
Emmett A. Heisz Jr. faces up to $20,000 in fines and four years and three months in prison if convicted of both counts.
According to the criminal complaint, Heisz punched a woman outside of a bar in Gays Mills because he thought that the woman had been flirting with another man in the bar. The woman fell back on the pavement and lost consciousness, the complaint said. There was a large gash on the woman’s head.
A witness told the officers that Heisz kneeled on the woman and punched her several times in the face and head.
The woman was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Thewoman’s eyes were black, blue and swollen. Her cheek was bruised and there was a cut above her right eye that required several stitches to close.
According to the complaint, Heisz struggled with officers at the scene, but the officers were able to gain control.
