History abounds at Marquette’s Railroad Days

Jim Teaser, who was a railroad telegrapher for 36 years, gave a demonstration at the Sept. 21 Railroad Days celebration in Marquette. Teaser went to school to learn how to be a telegrapher. To get hired, he said a person had to be able to do 10 to 15 words per minute. “You could always tell who the operator was by the way they sent messages,” Teaser explained to event attendees. “Everyone had a different fist.” (Photo by Audrey Posten)
