The new parking lot and the 10-foot-wide walking and bicycling trail were blacktopped Tuesday morning as part of the Washington Street Park project. The Washington Street Park project will cost $175,197. The project will include a new 10-foot-wide blacktop trail running along the Mississippi River from just north of Washington Street to just south of the Cedar Street Boat Landing, a canoe-kayak-storage-rental building, a rain garden next to the parking lot, three new 5-foot-wide sidewalks to provide access to various facilities in the park, a blacktop parking lot, a fishing pier, a stepped boulder wall-fishing area and a canoe and kayak dock-launch. Boat launch fees will pay for $18,500 of the project. A DNR Stewardship Grant of $83,848.50 was awarded. The American Canoe Association-LL Bean donated $1,000. The Prairie du Chien Foundation donated $1,000. The Iowa Bass Federation donated $1,000. Tax Incremental Districts 4, 5 and 6 provided $16,000. The Cabela’s Employee Fundraising Group raised $30,848.50. Capital Budget funds of $23,000 will also go towards the $175,197 project. The project is expected to be completed in one-and-a-half to two weeks.
