Woman dies after car drifts, hits embankment
A deadly accident occurred Saturday, Sept. 7, at about 3:30 p.m. in the town of Kickapoo, east of Readstown.
Sharon K. Grim, 70, of rural Viola, was driving a mid-size sport utility vehicle northwest on Highway 14, traveling down the “Sugar Grove Hill,” when her vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway on a curve to the left, just southeast of Moore Road.
The vehicle traveled several hundred feet in the ditch line, parallel to the highway. Upon impact with an embankment, the vehicle became airborne, overturned and Grim was ejected. The vehicle came to rest upright, pinning Grim between the lower portion of the vehicle and the embankment. It did not appear that Grim was wearing a seat belt.
The Viola and Readstown Fire Department extricated Grim from the wreckage and she was flown by Med Link Air to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
