Mary Kathleen Taylor



Mary K. Taylor, 62, of Volga, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013, at her home in Volga. Mary Kathleen, the daughter of Aloysius and Margaret (Berns) Knipper, was born May 10, 1951, in Manchester.  She graduated from Central Community High School, Elkader, Iowa, in 1969. Mary was united in marriage with Howard T. “Tom” Taylor on March 7, 1970, in Elkader. Mary was a custodian at Central State Bank for many years and had worked at Datacom in Oelwein. She also cleaned houses and assisted the elderly in the Volga and Elkader area. For several years, she was a reporter for the Volga area for the Clayton County Register.

Mary enjoyed collecting spoons and thimbles, talking to her friends on the phone, and spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tom Taylor of Volga; two children, Brett Taylor of Volga; and Michelle “Shelly” (Brian) Thompson of Quasqueton, Iowa; three grandsons, Logan Taylor, Jonathan Stanford, and Brandon Stanford; one  brother, Joseph Knipper of Volga; one sister, Alice (Mark) Kleinow of Marquette, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Jackie (Georgia) Taylor of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Joyce McClintock of Volga; and Jan (John) Moore of Volga; several nephews and nieces and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Edward Knipper; one sister, Betty Knipper; one brother-in-law, Jerald Taylor; one sister-in-law, Gail Knipper; one nephew, Greg Knipper; and one niece, Julie Taylor.    

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Volga, Iowa. Pastor Julie Ahrens was the officiant. Inurnment was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga, following the service.

Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time at the United Methodist Church on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
