Seneca JV holds off W-S gridders

The Seneca junior varsity football team edged visiting Wauzeka-Steuben 26-22 Friday night. 

The first quarter ended in an 8-8 tie. Tyler Zach scored on a 65-yard run for Seneca’s score. 

Wauzeka-Steuben scored a touchdown and a 2-point conversion in the second period. Seneca’s second-quarter score came on a 96-yard run by Brady Fernette as the halftime score was 16-14 in favor of Wauzeka-Steuben. 

Seneca scored 12 points in the third period, while Wauzeka-Steuben scored 6. Seneca scored on a 23-yard pass from Gavin Greene to Tyler Zach and on a 67-yard pass from Greene to Eric Konichek. 

 

Neither team scored in the fourth period as Seneca took the victory. 

“This was a great win for our team,” said Seneca Coach Justin Goodrich. “The big plays came at crucial times and our defense stepped up when we needed them the most. Nick Payne played a tremendous defensive game. I was proud of our team’s effort with the ups and downs throughout the game.”
