City Manager accepts new position

Guttenberg City Manager Barry Dykhuizen will soon be leaving the community to accept a similar position in Illinois.
In a letter to the mayor and council dated Aug. 30, Dykhuizen informed city officials that he has accepted the administrator position in Morrison, Ill.
"Serving the City of Guttenberg and working with the city council over the past six years has been a very rewarding experience. I truly feel honored to have had the opportunity to work and live in such a wonderful community. Guttenberg is a special place, and my wife and I will never forget our time here," Dykhuizen said in his letter.
Dykhuizen was hired here in 2007 during the tenure of Mayor Jim Solomon. He next worked with Mayor Gerald "Red" Block, who died while in office, and subsequently with the current mayor, Dr. Russell Loven.
The Morrison city council approved his hiring on Aug. 29. Dykhuizen expects to leave Guttenberg in mid-October.
Dykhuizen has a strong connection to the Morrison community, having grown up and graduated from high school there.
