Bulldog Cross Country opens season

The MFL MarMac Bulldog Cross Country team opened its season at Tri-City Golf Course, in Luana, on Sept. 5. 

 

The girls race was won by Jasmine Staebler, of Clayton Ridge, with a time of 16:43.50.  

 

As a team, the Bulldogs finished seventh. Marcy Klein led the way, with a time of 17:50.38, which was good for 14 points. Chaun’te Drahn was 22nd in points, with a time of 18:48.93. Marissa Lechtenberg was the next Bulldog finisher at 19:41.56, which was good for 28 points. Kaitlyn Wedo, from Postville, who was  running with the Bulldogs, was fourth on the team, with a time of 20:34.12. Laycee Roys, Maya Burke and Allison Corlett brought up the bottom part of the girls score.  

 

Team honors went to North Fayette Valley, with 86 points. Central was second, with 89 points, while Starmont finished third, at 155. The courage award for finishing, although it strained every fiber of her body, went to Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Silvia Oakland, who finished 15 minutes after everyone else, but still managed to cross the finish line despite being in extreme pain.

 

The boys race was won by North Fayette Valley’s Danny Halva, with a time of 17:37.37 over the 5,000 meters. Second place went to his teammate, Devon Monnahan, who finished at 17:41.81.

 

This effort lead North Fayette Valley to a first place victory, at 99 points. The Bulldog team was fifth, at 166 points, which was just two points behind Clayton Ridge.

 

Sam Pfieffer was the top Bulldog finisher, with a time of 20:09.40, which was good for13th. The next Bulldog finisher was Tristen Kautman, who placed 22nd. Kordell DuCharme was 40th, while Ashton Houg and Bobby Lang were 42nd and 49th, respectively. 

 

The team’s next race is set for Saturday, Sept. 14 at North Fayette Valley.
