Richard “Rick” Mason, 66, passed away Saturday, July 6, in Empangeni, South Africa from complications from surgery.
He was born Oct. 9, 1946, the son of Nickolas Mason and Sylva (Davis) Day. He graduated from West Grant High School in 1964. Following high school he served in the United States Air Force as an air-craft Mechanic. He worked mainly in Alaska and Hawaii, but loved sailing and was on his second time around of the world at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his daughter Eva; brothers David Mason of Dodgeville, Thomas (Pat) Mason, of Beloit; a sister Karen Troxell, of Medina, Ohio.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Sylvester and Eva Davis of Patch Grove; his step-father Howard Day; and his brother Gregory A. Day, of Victorville, Calif.
Per his wishes, Rick was cremated and his ashes were spread on the waters off the coast of South Africa.
