Karen Wright


Karen Wright, 74, of Monona, formerly of Clayton Center, died Sunday, August 11, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born June 19, 1939, in rural Farmersburg, to Lester and Esther (Kliefoth) Kurth. Karen graduated from Luana High School with the Class of 1957.

She was united in marriage to John Clifford (Jack) Wright on December 12, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo. Eight children were born to this union.

Karen was owner/ artist at the Wright Place, cooked at a few different places, was a seamstress, bookkeeper for The J Line and worked at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed gardening, reading and was an avid fan of NCIS TV show, especially it’s main character, Special Agent LeRoy J. Gibbs.

Survivors include her children, Lester (Diane) Wright of Mitchellville; Scott Wright of Monona; Timothy (Cathy) Wright of Monona; Brett Wright of Monona; Kimberly (Randy) Scherf of Farmersburg; Russell (Claudia) Wright of Monona; Annette (David) Morrison of Normal, IL; 12 grand-children; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way, four step-greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Christianson of Guttenberg and Ethelyn Berns of Elkader.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Elmer (Cy) Radloff; her husband on November 17, 2005; one son, Mark Wright; and one brother, Vernon Kurth.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo. Celebrant was Rev. Marvin Bries. Music was provided by Cindy Werges, organist, and Chris Evers, soloist. Casket bearers were Jeremy Wright, Mathew Wright, Alex Wright, Andrew Scherf, Christopher Wright, Randy Scherf, Dave Morrison and Richard Huff. Honorary casket bearer was LeRoy J. Gibbs. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo, at a later date. Visitation was 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
