Doris DeMuth

Doris A. DeMuth, 83, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, at home, surrounded by her loved ones.

Doris was born April 7, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Leonard and Stella (Straiton) Husted. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1948. Doris met and fell in love with Robert R. DeMuth, and they were married on Sept. 25, 1948, in St. Gabriel’s Church, Prairie du Chien. Their 65th wedding anniversary would have been next month.

Doris worked as a waitress at the Circle Nite Club and Timmerman’s Supper Club for several years, and later retired from Sears after 25 years as Human Resources Manager. Doris loved all her pets, and in her free time she loved to camp, bowl and golf, but above all spend time with her family. To sum it up, first to get to the party, last to leave and always first in line for the rollercoaster. She was also an avid bridge player with her many friends at Stonehill Care Center.

She was a member of the Sears Retiree Club, the United Way, Catholic Mother’s Club, Nativity Guild and Rosary Society and DECA Clubs of America.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Robert, of Dubuque, Iowa; two daughters, Connie (Robert) Benoit of Dubuque, Iowa, and Nancy (Steve) DeMuth-Krejci of Platteville; her daughter-in-law, Kathy DeMuth of Dubuque, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jason (Gena) Benoit of Port Byron, Ill., Nicolas (Tammy) Benoit of South Royalton, Vt., Sheena (Bob) Reed of Dubuque, and Joshua DeMuth of Dubuque, Iowa; Cameron Krejci of Platteville, and Brittany Eversoll of Platteville; her great grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, and Adam Benoit, Jacob and Thomas Benoit, Ava, Lila, and Mark Reed, and Maci and Lilyonna Eversoll; her sisters, Arlene (Ralph) Kluesner of Darlington, and Marion Hansen of Aurora, Colo.; her sister-in-law, Harlene Husted of West Chicago, Ill.; many loved nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Trixie.

She was preceded in death by her mother Stella and step-father William Henry; her only son, Mark DeMuth; and two brothers, William (Ann) Husted and Robert Husted.

Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Nativity Catholic Church, where there will be a Parish Rosary Service at 10:10 a.m. Rev. Scott Bullock will officiate. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque, Iowa, where there will be a prayer service at 6:45 p.m.
