Verdeen Waterman

 

Verdeen Emil Charles Waterman, 79, of Elkader, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.   

Verdeen was born November 4, 1933 to Martin F. and Pearl M. (Maier) Waterman in Elk Township, Iowa. He graduated from Littleport High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Loretta Pugh on January 23, 1955, in Rockford, Iowa. To this union five children were born. 

Verdeen was a farmer for over 40 years, worked for Exide Tech and worked for Wilson Foods for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, NASCAR, collecting Lionel model train sets and he was a shade tree mechanic. Verdeen loved John Deere tractors and his 1917 Rumely Oil Pull Tractor. He was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport.

Verdeen is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Loretta Waterman; four children, Verdeen Jr. (Darla) Waterman of Manchester; Steve (Cindy) Waterman of Boone; Mark (Jill) Waterman of Strawberry Point; and Lorna Waterman (special friend, Tom Smith) of Strawberry Point; seven grandchildren, Adam, Matthew and Benjamin Waterman of Manchester; Desiree (Tracy) Nott of Anamosa; Lisa (Jeremy) Brown of Dundee; Todd Waterman of Dundee; and Markeia Waterman of Strawberry Point; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Dante Henry, Ella and Gage Brown and Kole and Kalyse Waterman; one brother, Martin Waterman Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Verdeen was preceded in death by his father, Martin, in 1992; mother, Pearl, in 2001; and his son, Glen, in 2008. 

Funeral services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13.  Reverend Paul Fohs will be the officiant of the service. 

Visitation is Tuesday, August 13 from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church. Interment will be held at the Union Cemetery.
