This weekend in Regional American Legion baseball action the Prairie du Chien Hoppers faced off against Viroqua and Westby in what would come to be their final games.

On Wednesday, the Hoppers battled against Viroqua. Viroqua started the game off, scoring one run in the bottom of the second, which Prairie du Chien answered at the top of the fourth. The tie was short lived as the bottom of the fourth brought two more runs to Viroqua.

Increasing their lead, Viroqua scored three runs in the fifth. Prairie du Chien tried to battle back sixth and seventh, adding a run each inning, but fell short, leaving the final score at 3-6.

Thursday night the Hoppers were given another chance to fight to stay in tournament against Westby.

The first three innings of the game passed by uneventfully as both teams failed to score. Then, during the fourth inning, heavy rains, thunder and lightning got the game postponed until 3 p.m. on Friday.

On Friday, with only three and a half innings to play, both teams battled hard to hold each other at bay until the top of the seventh when Prairie du Chien’s Ryan Garrity hit one out of the park and gained a run for the Hoppers. Their victory, however, was short lived. Upon the beginning of bottom of the seventh, Westby—with runners on first and second—hit the ball for the win.
