Louise F. Schmal

Louise F. Schmal, 95, of Dyersville and formerly of Luxemberg, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Guttenberg.

Visitation was Tuesday, July 23, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 24, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, conducted by Rev. Dennis Quint.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Louise was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Luxemburg, the daughter of Nicholas and Veronica (Steffen) Hoffmann. She married Raymond Schmal on Feb. 11, 1947, in Luxemburg. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, the Layette's Quilters, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed painting, quilting, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include her son, Ronald (Anne Marie) Schmal of Caledonia, Minn.; six grandchildren, Martin Schmal, Sarah (Dan) Miles both of LaCrosse, Wis., Korey (Ray) Rasmusson of Boone, Karley Rasmusson of Denver, Colo., Dakota Schmal, Steven Schmal both of Caledonia, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Emileigh Hansel of Boone, Wren and Tate Miles both of LaCrosse, Wis.; in-laws, Virgie Hoffmann, Shirley (Arnold) Meyer both of Dyersville, and Ilo Hoffmann of Rock Island, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, in 1976; siblings, Gilbert, Clarence (Odeil), Lawrence, and Albin Hoffmann, and Armella (George) Steffen; in-laws, Kathryn (Bill) Neumann, Clarence (Marie) Schmal, Helen (Art) Berg, Aloysius Schmal, Marie (Elmer) Ruden, and Martin (Lucille) Schmal.

Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
