Disaster teams assess flood damage
Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) met Tuesday with local officials to view flood damage that occurred between June 21-27 in Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Richland and Vernon counties.
During this preliminary damage assessment (PDA), officials will inspect public infrastructure (roads, bridges, etc.) to determine the cost of the damage. The PDA does not include damage to individual properties. Local officials have estimated in excess of $8 million in debris clearance, emergency protective measures, and damage to roads and other public infrastructure.
Information gathered will be provided to Governor Scott Walker to help determine if the state will request a federal disaster declaration. It is the first step to potentially requesting federal disaster assistance.
