Barbara (Sturm) Huvard passed away July 2, 2013, at hospice after a courageous fight with bile duct cancer.
Barbara was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Spring Grove, Minn., to Arnold and Jenni Sturm. Barbara married Richard Krieger in 1956 and had two daughters, Kimberly Jean (Krieger) Hoop and Victoria Susan (Krieger) Strommen.
Barbara was a special woman with many talents. She had several careers including hairdressing, realtor, and cosmetic sales. But Barbara’s passion was her children and granddaughters (Katie, Julia and Nicole Strommen) and her beloved dog, Rosie. She enjoyed nature, home decorating, taking her dog for walks, gardening, art, literature, music and knitting. She continually wanted to grow and learn and she accomplished this by reading all sorts of books from the Bible to The New York Times. She was a sensitive, sophisticated woman that could be funny, wise and unpredictable. She traveled to many places such as Jamaica, Hawaii, Italy and France. She’d often comment that she would like to live in Italy some day.
Barbara was furiously loyal and loved her children – unconditionally. She could be kind and felt deep compassion for anything that wasn’t able to defend itself – animals, children and the elderly. We will miss her sense of humor, wit and her inability to be impartial when it came to her kids and grandkids. Our world changed the day Mom left us. We lost our best fan and sincere advocate. Mom was a believer in the afterlife and we are thankful that her spirit is free now to be happy, healthy and at peace. We are thankful we had her as our Mom. We love you Mom. You will be in our hearts forever.
