On July 8th, Central faced Lansing Kee High in Elkader for the first-round of Regionals.  The Warriors lost the game by a score of 2-1.

Ashley Nemechek had a hit and scored Central’s only run.  Gabrielle Berns also had a hit. Paige Funk was the losing pitcher but did a nice job on the mound with no earned runs allowed.

“We did not hit the ball as well as we would have liked and did not take advantage of opportunities to score early in the game,” Coach Becky Lower said. “Defensively, we had two errors which they capitalized on and scored their runs off both errors.  The girls had potential to go further in tournament play and were disappointed in the outcome, ending their season too soon.”

“This great group of girls has a lot of potential and possesses the attitudes and work ethic to be successful,” Coach Lower continued. “All players will return next season with the exception of two seniors.  They all have varsity experience and much promise for next year. Unfortunately for our two seniors, Ashley Nemechek and Paige Funk, their careers have ended and they will be missed next season. Ashley Nemechek received UIC 1st Team All-Conference as a catcher and Paige Funk received Honorable Mention honors for the 2013 Season. I always consider it a privilege to work with great kids and have enjoyed every day spent with the team.  I truly look forward to next season and the possibilities it will hold.”
