Participation requested Community talks specifics of new comprehensive plan
By Molly Moser
Guttenberg’s new comprehensive plan continues to develop through a series of public think-tanks, which conclude this evening, July 10, with a discussion on community services and facilities, infrastructure, and utilities. Thus far, think-tank participants have discussed the future of community character and culture, natural and agricultural resources, housing, transportation, and economic development, which will become chapters in the final plan.
The goal of these meetings is for residents and shareholders to design specific strategies to achieve the visions described by the community earlier this year. The city’s new vision statement, drawn directly from public participation and worded by the steering committee, is as follows.
“Nestled between limestone bluffs and the mighty Mississippi River, Guttenberg is a scenic, safe and vibrant community. Residents and visitors enjoy recreational activities, riverfront parks and our historic downtown. Quality healthcare, schools, churches, thriving businesses and friendly people contribute to a welcoming environment. Guttenberg creates opportunities for all generations.” This statement gives a broad outline for the future of the city and the development of the comprehensive plan.
Notes from each think-tank and individual vision statements for the topics discussed can be accessed from the city website and are available directly at http://uerpc.org/guttenberg-comp-plan.html. All residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in a survey located at the same web address. The survey takes about 15 minutes, and the results will guide the final steps of the planning process. Surveys are also available at city hall.
