Herbert Heffner, 88, of Bloomington, died Monday, July 1, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.
Herb was born on February 20, 1925 in Crawford County, to Herbert and Leta (Gibbings) Heffner.
Herb married Marie Johnson on February 20, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Boscobel. He worked as a mechanic nearly all his life, first as an auto mechanic, then later as a tractor mechanic for International Harvester in Prairie du Chien. He did try farming for a short time, but that wasn’t for him. His true calling in life was being a mechanic.
Herb is survived by his four children, Carolyn (Bud) Struntz, Copperas Cove, Texas, Roger (Dianne) Heffner, Lancaster, Robert (Patty) Heffner, Lino Lakes, Minn., and Helen (Ernest) Struntz, Bloomington; a sister-in-law, Millie Heffner, Boscobel; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 2003; his parents; and two brothers, Buford and David Heffner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in Blakes Prairie Cemetery, Bloomington Township.
