Marlene Hutchins Meuer

Marlene B. Hutchins Meuer, 82, of Prairie du Chien, passed away with the same dignity and courage as she lived her life on Friday, June 21, at her home in Prairie du Chien.

Marlene Bunny, the daughter of Arvid and Agnes (Radtke) Broman, was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended high school at Milwaukee Rufus King and graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1948. Bunny spent many summers in Rib Lake, Wisconsin in her childhood. She was a model for Gimbels and The Boston Store at the young age of 9. Bunny married the love of her life, Bruce Jameson Hutchins on October 16, 1948 at the First Congregational Church in Gays Mills. Seven children were born to this union. Bunny and Bruce farmed near Gays Mills for several years before Bruce became the Crawford County Sheriff. Bunny became the Matron of the county jail and she was later elected Sheriff, at the age of 27. After serving as Sheriff, Bunny continued to raise her family. Bruce preceded her in death on March 17, 1982. Bunny was then united in marriage with Francis “Sam” Meuer in August of 1985. Sam preceded her in death in May of 1988.

Bunny had been a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for several years. She loved to cook and bake, spending time on the Mississippi River and entertaining guests in her home. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. She was happiest being with her family and the many endearing conversations with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bunny is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Terry) Hutchins of Altoona; Gregory Hutchins in Russia; Tracy Hutchins of Prairie du Chien; Scott (Kristin) Hutchins of Libertyville, Ill.; Kent (Connie) Hutchins of Whitewater; Wendy (Charlie) Vanderbilt of Prairie du Chien; and Brent (Angel) Hutchins of Stewartville, Minn.; twenty grandchildren, Jason, Dana, Terra, John, Kristen, Sunny, Joshua, Nicole, Jacob, Hannah, Brooke, Lindsey, Erin, Jacob, Jameson, Justin, Becca, Danielle, Taylor, and Jordan; and twenty great grandchildren.
