Jon R. Arp, 78, of Bagley, died on Saturday, June 22, at Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster.
He was born on January 17, 1935, in Rock Island, Ill., the son of Otto and Dorothy (Oppendike) Arp. Jon served his country in the United States Army and the Naval Reserve. In 1954, he was united in marriage to Arlene Rice in Rock Island. Three children were born to this union, Kimberly, Shari and Jon. Jon was employed with Illinois Bell Ameritech until his retirement in 1983. In 1989, he married Diana Boyd in Moline, Ill. In 1998, the couple moved to Bagley. Jon loved fishing, reading about history, and playing cribbage.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Arp, Bagley; two children, Kimberly Arp, Grass Lake, Mich., Shari (David) Shrum, New Market, Ala.; one sister, Diana Coelho, Moline, Ill.; two grandchildren Zachary Arp Barnett and Kacie Shrum; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by a son, Jon.
At Jon’s request there will be no services. Private family burial with military honors will be at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Bagley First Responders. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bloomington is serving the family.
