Faye J. Wiethorn, 68, Monona, died Friday, June 21, at her home in Monona, Iowa, following a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Faye Joann, the daughter of Haldon and Marie (Eberhardt) Reimer, was born on the Reimer family farm in rural Clayton County, Iowa on December 16, 1944. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace United Church in Elkader, Iowa. Faye was a 1963 graduate of Garnavillo High School and a 1967 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa. Faye was united in marriage with Bill Ray Wiethorn on January 21, 1966 at Peace United Church in Elkader. To this union seven children were born and raised in Monona. Later the family lived and worked the Wiethorn family farm just outside of Monona. Bill preceded her in death in 2003.
Faye worked at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital from 1967 until her retirement in 2011. During these forty-four years, Faye held positions as a nursing supervisor, utilization review manager, and Walter Schmidt Independent Living Facility manager.
Faye loved the time she spent with her family, which varied from one-on-one visits to very large groups. She also cherished her time she spent with her significant other, Jerry Zapf. In her spare time, Faye enjoyed gardening, time at the pond and sewing. She passionately designed and sewed blankets for each of her grandchildren.
Faye is survived by six children, Richard (Maureen) Wiethorn of Maple Grove, Minn., Carmen (Mike) Folluo of Hamilton, Ill., Paula (Lonnie) Thornton of Cheyenne, Wyo., Amy (Mike) Shepherd of Arvada, Colo., Daniel (Amy) Wiethorn of Monona, Iowa, and Michael (Deb) Wiethorn of Solon, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, Zachary, Brandon, and Megan Wiethorn, Allison and Carley Folluo, Kelby, Jacob, and Cole Thornton, Max and Jack Shepherd, Chloe and Maddox Wiethorn, and Sadie and Dillon Wiethorn; three sisters, Susie (Jim) Dinan of Edgewood, Iowa, Linda (Chris) Schoulte of Farmersburg, Iowa and Donna (Dan) Miller of Monona, Iowa; three brothers, Ronnie (Mary) Reimer of Garnavillo, Iowa, Ken (Alice) Reimer of Elkader, Iowa; and Doug (Kathy) Reimer of Guttenberg, Iowa.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and infant daughter, Sandra; her parents; and two brothers, Loren and Michael Reimer.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at the Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, Iowa. The Rev. Dennis Hopes will officiate.
