WarEagles have several close calls

The Clayton Ridge/Central Varsity baseball team was involved in a number of close games this past week.

MFL MarMac 5, Clayton Ridge/Central 4

The Bulldogs scored five unearned runs in manufacturing a 5-4 win. The WarEagles rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to tie it heading into the seventh.  However, the Bulldogs scored on a two-out error to pull out the win.  Ryan Lucas, Colin Connelly, Dylan Preston, and Colten Connelly had two hits each.  The WarEagles out hit the Bulldogs 12-6. Lucas, Preston, Ryan Moser, and Colten Connelly each drove in a run.  Colin Connelly took the loss, working five-plus innings in relief, no earned runs allowed, and struck out four.

Clayton Ridge/Central 5, MFL MarMac 0

Colten Connelly tossed a four-hit shutout, walked one, and struck out eight in leading the WarEagles to a split. The WarEagles put up five runs in the first inning for all of the scoring.  Dylan Preston, Colten Rastetter, Jake Aulwes, Connelly, and Corey Broxson all delivered RBI singles.  Preston and Ryan Lucas had two hits each.

Sumner-Fred 1, Clayton Ridge/Central 0

The Cougars scored an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the games lone run. Colten Connelly lost the pitchers dual, scattering six hits and struck out five. The WarEagles only managed three hits.  Dylan Preston singled, and doubled to lead the offense.  The WarEagles missed out on bases loaded chances in the second and fourth inning.

Sumner-Fred 9, Clayton Ridge/Central 5

The Cougars rallied from a 4-0 fifth-inning deficit to get the sweep.  Only two of the Cougars nine runs were earned. Gibson Berns worked into the fifth, Dylan Preston and Colin Connelly worked the final two innings.  The three pitchers combined to allow just seven hits.  Dylan Preston had three hits and drove in a run.  Colin Connelly doubled twice.  Trey Roehlk added two hits, and Colten Connelly drove in a pair.  The WarEagles totaled ten hits in the loss.

Clayton Ridge/Central 13, East Buchanan 4

The WarEagles scored in six of the seven innings to finish the week with a win. Colten Rastetter worked six-plus innings of relief, allowing just four hits and no earned runs in picking up the win. Rastetter also had three hits and drove in four to lead the offense. Colin Connelly, Dylan Preston, Trey Roehlk, and Colten Connelly each had two hits.  Colten Connelly drove in three, Roehlk also drove in a pair.  Ryan Moser scored three times.

The WarEagles games at the North Linn Tourney were postponed by rain.

WarEagles Junior Varsity

The Clayton Ridge/Central JV played a total of six games last week, picking up four wins.

Clayton Ridge/Central JV 9, MFL MarMac JV 4

Dakota Olson pitched four innings, allowing just a hit and a run. Derek Ehrhardt and Nick Sylvester had two hits each and scored twice. Ehrhardt drove in three runs.

Clayton Ridge/Central  JV 10, MFL MarMac JV 0

Sawyer Schmelzer allowed two hits and struck out seven in three innings of work.  Jace Moore went 2-3, scored three times and drove in a pair. Colin Kprafl also scored three times.

Kee High JV 3, Clayton Ridge/Central JV 2

Robbie Sweers pitched five innings, allowed three hits and struck out four. Jace Moore singled.  Derek Ehrhardt homered in the loss.

Clayton Ridge/Central JV 18, Turkey Valley JV 1

Derek Erhardt and Austin Helle each pitched two hitless innings.  Helle struck out four.  Andrew Burgin drove in four runs and scored three times. Jared Gerner went 4-4 with four RBIs.

Valley JV 7, Clayton Ridge/Central JV 6

Jared Gerner pitched four innings, allowing just two runs.  Thomas Meyer and Logan Peterson delivered RBI singles.  Meyer had two hits in the game.

Dakota Olson pitched three hitless innings and struck out four.  Sawyer Schmelzer and Ethan Ertl delivered RBI singles.
