Marian “Mariann” Patzner
Marian Elizabeth “Mariann” Hamlett Patzner, 87, of Meadows, IL, formerly of Elkader, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in Normal, IL.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington, IL. Visitation was from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at St. Joseph Cemetery, Elkader.
Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on June 11, 1925 in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of Henry H. and Johanna E. Wach Hamlett. She was married to Delbert M. Patzner.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda M. Carter, Normal and Valerie L. Smith, Blue Jay, CA; seven grandchildren, Lauren and Justin Carter, Andrew and Madelynn Patzner, Gregory and Christopher Gibson and Jason Smith; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda (Don) Leonhart, Cedar Rapids and Ruth Roberts, Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by two sons, Martin H. Patzner and Martin A. Patzner.
Mariann graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1941. After graduation, she worked as a grade school teacher as well as a nurse’s aid. She moved to Rochelle, Illinois and was a stay at home mother. After raising her children, she worked at the Rochelle News Leader, GTE Telephone Company, the Rochelle Community Hospital and she was also a realtor and an in home caregiver. She volunteered for the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and for voter registration.
Mariann loved fixing up her house, gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed music and animals, especially her pets. She had a strong belief in her Catholic faith and volunteered at her local church. She will be dearly missed.
