Abundance of goodies on auction at Fort Crawford’s Pies-A-Plenty Saturday
By Caitlin Bittner
This Saturday, June 15, the Fort Crawford Museum will be hosting its ninth annual Pies-A-Plenty pie auction in conjunction with the 38th annual Prairie Villa Rendezvous. At the auction, community members and businesses will have the opportunity to bid on delicious homemade pies made just for the event.
Pies-A-Plenty got its start with Donna Cipra, in 2005, and has continuously been the biggest fundraiser that the Fort Crawford Museum puts on during the year. The proceeds from the event go toward funding for the museum.
This year’s auction will be at 4 p.m. at the Jaycees food stand on St. Feriole Island, and will be run by Kurt Kramer, of Kramer Real Estate and Auction Service. There will be over 50 pies for the public to bid on.
“We don’t tell anybody what kind of pie to make; it’s kind of an adventure,” said Linda Munson, who is in charge of this year’s auction. While there is no way to know exactly what’s going to be up for grabs, there are a few safe bets.
“Because of the time of year, rhubarb is very popular,” explained Munson, who added that buyers can probably expect to see a variety of both refrigerated and room temperature pies, including classics and special recipes.
